Adam Lobene

Adam began his career as a Portfolio Manager at Schonfeld Strategic Advisory, trading equities, futures, commodities, and currencies. After five years with Schonfeld, Adam joined Credit Suisse as a Credit Analyst, responsible for reviewing credit lines for regional and money-centered banks. Thereafter, he moved to Compass Point Research & Trading, where he helped raise $1.2B for public REITs.

After leaving Compass, Adam ventured into real estate development full-time in Washington, D.C. He began by owning and operating a distressed property acquisitions company, focusing on sourcing and structuring off-market real estate development projects, coordinating pre-development efforts, and serving as a general contractor. Adam then operated under Adam Lobene Holdings LLC & District Growth LLC, where he led the acquisition, construction, disposition, and management of over 300 rental units and 500 condos, in over 100 transactions valued at nearly $600M.

Adam founded American Housing in 2021 to focus on larger-scale multifamily transactions throughout premier neighborhoods of Washington, D.C. 

Adam earned his Bachelor of Finance and Economics from George Mason University and his Master of Business Administration from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at UNC Chapel Hill, graduating with Highest Honors. Adam lives in Washington, D.C. with his wife, Eleni, and their three children.

Jason Wiles

Jason is a seasoned business executive with over 20 years of experience across the real estate, management, and marketing sectors. He is responsible for establishing and managing strategic relationships with mission-oriented equity investors and philanthropic partners.

Before joining American Housing, Jason co-founded Wiles & Howard Companies, LLC, where he oversaw business development, investment management, and fundraising initiatives. During his tenure, Wiles & Howard Companies facilitated over $200M in real estate transactions. Jason has also done contract work for organizations such as Time Warner, Viacom, NBC Sports, The Barker Group, Showtime, HBO, and The Office of the Mayor-Washington DC.

Jason received his Bachelor of Arts in Sports Marketing and Management from the University of Maryland, College Park. He resides in Silver Spring, MD, with his wife and two daughters.

Strategic Operations, Partner

Marcus Howard

Marcus is an experienced real estate investor and developer who has worked in the D.C. area for over 20 years. As Vice President of Strategic Operations, he is responsible for establishing relationships with mission-oriented investors and financial institutions.

Marcus has always felt strongly about the importance of safe and affordable housing for all people, which led him to begin his career with the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development. Marcus later transitioned to working with various startups and entrepreneurs in the real estate industry where his expertise could create a positive impact for the community.

Marcus is passionate about providing solutions for low-income housing, and he has done substantial work in crowd-funding, private equity transactions, and asset acquisition for various projects throughout the U.S.

Marcus received Bachelor’s Degrees in Business and Sociology from the College of William & Mary. He lives in Alexandria, VA, with his wife and two daughters.

Finance & Accounting

Albina Atabaeva

As Vice President of Accounting and Finance, Albina is responsible for overseeing the books and records of all Corporate, Upper Tier, and Property entities. She manages forecasting and budgeting, financial reporting, and any other financial activity impacting the American Housing operations.

Prior to joining American Housing, Albina served as Property Controller at DC-based real estate investment firm Penzance, where she oversaw the company’s accounting and finance activities and led ongoing training and professional development activities. While at Penzance, Albina led the successful restructuring, transition, and deployment of the accounting and finance platform. Before that, she spent three years as an auditor with Baker Tilly.

Ms. Atabaeva is an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE). She is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in Maryland and Certified Fraud Examiner nationwide.

Investments & Asset Management

Chris Keeling

Chris has more than 15 years of residential investment and asset management experience across affordable, value-add, and opportunistic investment strategies in urban and suburban markets around the country.

As Senior Vice President, Chris has overseen the development and management of more than 5,000 units throughout the Washington, D.C. region. He previously served as Vice President at D.C. real estate investment firm Penzance, managing their residential asset management platform.

Previously, Chris was a Director with Boston-based firm WinnCompanies, overseeing acquisitions and asset management for the Southeastern and West Coast markets, focusing on affordable and conventional transactions.

Chris earned his Bachelor of Communications from Appalachian State University and his Master of Business Administration from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at UNC Chapel Hill. Chris lives in Washington, D.C., with his wife and son.

Construction Management

Erin Kistner

Erin has 17 years of construction experience with projects spanning government, transportation, corporate, parks & recreation, and multi-family markets. As Construction Manager, Erin oversees budgeting, scheduling, and quality control for all construction activity.

Erin began her career with Hensel Phelps Construction as an Assistant Project Manager and Superintendent on large-scale government projects, including the restoration of the DC Court of Appeals. Later, after joining Alpha Corporation, Erin was one of the company’s lead Construction Managers for the National Park Service. While at Alpha, Erin oversaw such projects as the Independence Hall Tower Restoration in Philadelphia, PA, and the National Mall Irrigation & Turf Replacement in Washington, D.C. For the latter, she was awarded a National Project Achievement Award by the Construction Management Associations of America.

Erin received her Bachelor of Science in Historic Preservation with a dual minor in Business Management and Art & Architecture History from Roger Williams University, graduating with Honors.

Human Resources & Treasury

Mark Lefaive

Mark is a career finance professional with over 40 years of experience largely within the oil and energy sectors, having spent decades as a Senior Manager with Royal Dutch Shell / Shell Oil USA. At American Housing, Mark lends his extensive corporate experience overseeing matters related to treasury, corporate structure, operating platforms, and human resources.

Since retiring from his career with Shell Oil in 2017, Mark shifted to real estate to diversify his financial portfolio and leverage his past experiences while supporting small and growing businesses. Over the past eight years, Mark has invested in single-family, multifamily, and commercial real estate projects throughout Texas, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C.

Mark earned his Bachelor in Accountancy from Bentley University and his Masters in Finance

Property Management

John Lobene

John has nearly 15 years of experience in property management and maintenance. Overseeing American Housing Management, John and his team are responsible for daily operations and maintenance of the American Housing portfolio.

Before working at American Housing, John owned and operated F. C. Finishes for over ten years in Rochester, NY. F.C. Finishes focused on finish trade work for large new residential developments and conducted revitalization projects that helped rebuild the Rochester community.

In addition to property management, John works closely with our service partners to ensure residents get the support they need in areas like special education, childcare, employment advancement, financial opportunities, and housing. Currently, John manages a portfolio of 350 units and is on pace to have an additional 1,000 units over 24 months.

John graduated from Roberts Wesleyan College with a degree in Business Administration, and he resides in Washington, D.C. with his wife and son.
